Easy one, got C pretty fast. Plug y^2 in for x in the first statement and it basically solves itself.
wait how does that give you a single value? i got two options at first but then remembered x and y are integers so negatives don't work with 27 being positive... is that the trick?
ngl statement 2 on its own gave me like three pairs and I almost picked B lol. good reminder that one statement alone usually doesn't pin it down here.
same, i was so sure y^2 by itself was enough until i tried actual numbers
What it tests
Your ability to manipulate linear and quadratic expressions, substitute unknowns, and solve equations under time pressure.
Common trap
Losing a sign when moving terms across the equals sign, or dividing both sides by a variable that could equal zero.
